Claycult Cambodia: A Unique Experience of Handmade Ceramic Beads and Jewellery

Updated: Mar 16, 2024

Claycult Cambodia was founded in 2007 by Australian artist and designer Elizabeth Kiely, who fell in love with the ancient art of ceramic bead making while visiting Siem Reap. She decided to set up a workshop and train local women and young people to create beautiful and unique beads and jewellery, inspired by the rich heritage of Cambodia and the stunning temples of Angkor.

Claycult Cambodia aims to provide a happy work environment, fair wages, long-term employment, education, social support, and housing for its team of over 20 staff members. The enterprise also supports various local charities and projects, such as the Angkor Hospital for Children, the Cambodian Landmine Museum, and the Cambodian Children’s Fund.

Activities

One of the best things about Claycult Cambodia is that you can see the whole process of bead making, from the digging and production of the clay, to the rolling, shaping, and painting of the beads, to the firing of the kilns, to the creation of the jewellery. You can also join a workshop and learn how to make your own beads and jewellery, guided by the friendly and skilled instructors. The workshops are suitable for all ages and levels of experience, and you can take home your own creations as a souvenir.

Claycult Cambodia offers a range of exquisite necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and beads, in a variety of designs, colours, and sizes. You can find something for every taste and occasion, from boho to classic elegance, from casual to formal.
